The mansion that you will enter is almost 200 years old. Construction began in 1812, the same year that the British burned down the White House. The mansion was not completed that year, because the workers had to flee in order to escape the oncoming British. The original owner of the mansion was Dr. William Brewer. During the war of 1812 there were battles fought in this area. Dr. Brewer helped care for many dying and wounded soldiers, which explains why there have been so many ghost sightings in and around the mansion.
The building where the doctor treated his patients is still standing and is located around the back of the house. He did not want to bring patients inside because this would promote the spread of disease. Dysentery, typhoid fever, pneumonia, malaria, and tuberculosis were just some of the diseases the soldiers faced.
Last year paranormal investigators heard about the mansion’s reputation, and came out here to see it for themselves. They used a wide array of equipment and found that the mansion was in fact haunted. The highest levels of paranormal activity occurred in the upper west wing, and in the basement cellar. We hope you don’t contribute any more to that activity when you get there . . .
